The second part of my poetic series, The Muse Chronicles

Polyhymnia was the Muse of Rhetoric. She was said to have brought fame to those who invoked her to aid their writing.

Sly Polyhymnia consists of two poem, In Sooth and The Act.

In Sooth

Come, come hither
Under the sun, sit with me

Lend thee a curious ear
Well will ye be rewarded

For your time
And for your pen

The Act

To a thinking mind, I myself attach,
And organize the thoughts therein.
Trembling hands, a soft word: details to match,
Ignoring her would be a sin.
Such a concept even simple minds catch.

There is little to me,
Give me no countenance.
What I am is nothing you can see,
I am of little substance,
And merely energy.

To the mind I find
I give myself completely.
Leaving my old self behind
Without charging a fee,
Not even expecting to be repaid in kind.

To the mind I inspire
Such great fire
That causeth many a buyer
To flock to the mire
Where I dwell

[Retire]

Hello Kitty

Posted in Miscellaneous with tags , , , , , on April 15, 2008 by vee1987

I’m part Asian. I’m a girl. I’m an Asian Girl. As par for the course, I like Hello Kitty. I don’t even know when I first saw Hello Kitty, but I remember my oldest pair of pajamas had an iron on appliqué of HK. When I was younger, no one around me new what HK was. And I didn’t really have all that much HK stuff. My interest in HK flagged a bit as I grew up, I started liking Pochacco and Badtz Maru more, but still I got a Build-A-Bear Hello Kitty from my boyfriend for one Christmas.

Anyway, my older sister on the other hand started liking HK more. And she’s by no means a fanatic, but just more into it than me. In a way, her liking HK made me start to dislike it. My other reason for changing comes from this next memory.

I remember seeing the blue HK, in a blocky 3-D with angel wings. I thought it was blasphemous. I remember saying, this is not HK. I didn’t think the words at the time, but I knew that this was the start of something really bad. And oh how it was. Boston isn’t bad at all in terms of HK, she isn’t as pervasive here as other cities, but still, my sister has H K seat covers, a steering wheel cover, and even wears HK scrubs to work, she’s a nurse. And she isn’t that bad at all, she likes HK in a safely cute way. But, this, this is bad.

I am very sorry.

The first part of a series of poems, The Muse Chronicles, dedicated to and about the 9 Greek Muses.

Urania was the Muse of astrology and astronomy. And is aligned with philosophy and the heavens.

Urania’s Reflection consists of three poems: Wisdom, Definition Muse, Distractions.

Wisdom:

To sit on a mountaintop
Alone,
But not lonely

The stars
Reflect your ideas
If you let them

Urania’s Reflections: Definition Muse

Definition Muse

A Muse is nothing and everything
No one ever wonders their story
And the Artist so demanding
The Muse must be energetic
Enthusiastic, ever helping

Or else be cast in the Mud

A Muse must be ever self-sacrificing
Molding, adapting to the
Every whim of the one they’re inspiring
Or risk being called cruel and fickle
Simply teasing

A Muse cannot be Earthly
Or humanly pleasures pursuiting
They must be lofty, ambiguously mysterious
Else the image fall shatt’ring
To the ground

And the beautiful Creature that be clamouring
Be called Fraud
